Has spring sprung?
When does spring actually begin?
According to the calendar, it’s the first of February. In the US it’s the 21st March, the spring equinox. According to nature it’s beginning to happen around now.
Lambs are appearing
The hedgerows are beginning to green up
Snowdrops are plentiful
Tulip bulbs are bursting forth
Even some early daffodils have appeared
I think we can say spring has sprung … or at least is certainly springing.

Gosh! You can tell you’re a wee bit south of us. Still ice-bound up here. No chance of lambs for another fortnight at least, let alone PLANT LIFE! Can’t wait for Spring… still too scared to even whisper its name
Snow in Clare today..spring has taken a step back for now in my neck of the woods
Lily, I think you are on a different continent or planet! My world outside my door is white once more tonight. Sunday morning it was snow, Monday morning it was heavy frost and now it is snow again. I did see a few snowdrops under a weeping willow tree and the crocuses are beginning to peep through, but the only daffs are the forced ones outside the local florist.
I hope that Spring comes before I need to drive to Galway!
Lovely photos.
Kirsty, Marie, Grannymar and John, All photos (except the lambs) taken on Sunday in our garden or on my walk on the road near the house. Whilst we’ve had frost this week thankfully, we haven’t had snow.
From what you’re saying, I think I’ll stay on my own little planet here and enjoy spring
Lovely photos.
This evening it was light until well after 6pm so it seems Springlike…although I wish it was warmer!
Val, yes the stretch in the evening is great. This certainly has been a cold week.
Just heard Met Eireann say on this morning’s weather forecast that it considers the first of March as the start of the Spring season
